NORTHERN COUNTIES SHETLAND SHEEPDOG CLUB SINGLE BREED OPEN SHOW HELD ON SUNDAY 2 JANUARY 2022 Thank you to the Northern Counties Shetland Sheepdog Club for inviting me to judge at their open show. I was made very welcome and I thoroughly enjoyed my day. I would like to thank the exhibitors for giving me the opportunity to judge their dogs. I had two excellent stewards which kept everything running smoothly. Minor Puppy Dog (3 entries 1 absent). 1st – Smith's Fenstyle Never Say Never TAF – b/m baby of 8 months who was a lovely colour with rich tan markings. Stood and showed himself off to advantage with a level topline and a good length of tail. Excellent construction which enabled him to move around the ring with reach and drive. Will follow his progress with interest – Best Puppy Dog. 2nd – Walker's Shelegian Sing To Me Raven – b/w puppy of only 6 months. Lovely jet black coat, nice size and very shapely. Good bend of stifle and a lovely temperament. Lovely dark almond shaped eye. Puppy dog (1 entry) 1st – Hateley's Valmay The Viceroy – mature s/w puppy in excellent coat. Lovely sweet expression with the correct almond shaped eye, well placed ears which were well used. Good reach of neck. Neat oval feet. Junior Dog (2 entries) 1st – Hateley's – Valmay The Viceroy. 2nd – Sutherland's Shelcrest Winter Solstice – shaded s/w dog in excellent coat. Well off for bone. Low set tail of good length. Good length of neck and moved with drive from the rear. Maiden Dog (1 entry) 1st – Fenstyle Never Say Never. Novice Dog (1 entry) 1st Glover-Guest's Doonelodge The Explorer – Profusely coated dog of correct size, neat ears, nice oval feet, shoulders well laid back. Strong bone and good depth of chest. Tyro Dog (2 entries) 1st – Glover-Guest's Doonelodge The Explorer. 2nd – Hateley's Valmay The Viceroy. Graduate Dog (5 entries 1 absent) 1st – Fisher's Shellamoyed Goldfinch – Golden s/w in excellent coat which was beautifully presented. Lovely dark almond shaped eye and neat well placed ears giving the desired sweet expression. Excellent bone and moved with drive. 2nd – Malone's Pathaaron After the Storm – tri dog with lovely rich tan markings. Lovely head with flat skull, well developed underjaw and well arched muscular neck. Moved with reach and drive. In gleaming condition. 3rd – Savage's Willowthorn Kobalt Star By Savataurus Jun CH and JW Post Graduate Dog (3 entries 1 absent) 1st – Savage's Willowthorn Kobalt Star By Savataurus Jun CH and JW – mature b/m dog in excellent coat which was the correct texture and well presented. Nice almond shaped eye and good deep chest. Stood and showed to advantage. 2nd – Fawcett's Northern Pride for Ronsadale – mature s/w dog. Level back and gentle sweep over the loins, good underjaw. Well placed dark eyes and a lovely deep chest. Limit Dog (5 entries 1 absent) 1st – Fisher's Shellamoyed Gold Fever - Another nice one from this kennel. In excellent coat Masculine dog with a well arched neck, super construction, desired sweet expression and level topline. Nice dark almond shaped eye which was well placed. Sound on the move with excellent tail carriage. Reserve Best Dog. 2nd – Walker's Tooralie's Pie In The Sky – Lovely shape, good bend of stifle and moved very well. Skull and muzzle of equal length, cheeks flat. Sweet expression, good overall balance and very sound. 3rd – Goodwin's Highbrook He's Got Style JW Open Dog (2 entries 1 absent) 1st – Goodwin's Highbrook Hobnob – mature dog in excellent coat. Lovely to go over. Well arched neck. Covered the ground with minimum effort. Good spring of rib. Excellent height to length ratio. Stood and showed to advantage. Veteran Dog (2 entries 1 absent) 1st – Malone's Carmeva Caymen SHCM SHCEX – shaded s/w who is a credit to his owner. In the best of condition, who does not look his age. Stood and showed himself to full advantage. Excellent mover. Level topline. Good sweep over loin. Ideal size, well off for bone. Neat well placed ears. Best Veteran Dog and Best Veteran in Show. Special Open Dog (Sable and White) (4 entries 1 absent) 1st – Hill's CH/AUST CH Hartly How About Me for Molson (Imp Aus) – Masculine dog without a hint of coarseness. Well made dog In excellent coat. Good front and rear construction. Lovely head with a dark well placed eye giving the desired sweet expression, good underjaw. Moved very well with minimum effort. Good spring of ribs, good length to height ratio. Best Dog and Best In Show. 2nd – Redpath's Molson Miroquai into Pathaaron – Excellent reach of neck. In lovely coat. Neat oval feet. Good length of tail. Well muscled and moved with drive. Stood and showed himself to advantage. Good depth of chest and a level topline. 3rd – Fawcett's Northern Pride for Ronsadale Special Open Dog Tri, BT, BW) (1 entry 1 absent). Special Open Dog (Blue Merle) ( 2 entries 1 absent). 1st – Bird and Caden's Molson Mr Blue Sky JW – mature b/m dog of good colour and a lovely size. In excellent coat which was well presented, Good bone and construction. Moved well. Stood foursquare. Minor Puppy Bitch (2 entries 1 absent), 1st – Walker's Ballynerrin Erin Of the Isle – Tri baby of only 6 months. Lovely outline, bend of stifle and sweep over the loin, Confident puppy with an excellent temperament who stood and showed extremely well for one so young, Jet black coat with rich tan markings and good pigmentation. Moved out well. Puppy Bitch (3 entries 2 absent). 1st – James' Valmay in Vogue – s/w in excellent condition. Beautiful puppy who appealed for her excellent breed type. Of ideal size with a lovely head and the sweetest of expressions and a good reach of neck. Stood foursquare and showed herself off to full advantage. Moved round the ring with drive. One I liked very much and I am in no doubt will have a very promising future. Best Puppy Bitch and Best Puppy in Show. Junior Bitch (3 entries 2 absent). 1st – Goodwin's Rannerdale Honey Bee – s/w who is of excellent breed type. Excels in head with the sweetest of expressions. Good underjaw. Spot on for size and good reach of neck. Well off for bone. Moved with reach and drive and had lovely well padded neat oval feet. Just needs a little bit of time but one I really liked. Maiden Bitch (1 entry 1 absent). Novice Bitch (4 entries 1 absent) 1st – James' Valmay in Vogue. 2nd – Walker's Springtime Affair at Tooralie NAF – s/w puppy who is coming on nicely. Just a baby but stood and showed well and full of confidence. Very shapely with good length of tail which was carried well on the move. 3rd – Welford's Echolynn Polyphonic Tyro Bitch (1 entry 1 absent). Graduate Bitch (3 entries 2 absent). 1st Rowan's Degallo Dream Girl at Rowancrest – s/w who although not in full coat appealed greatly for her balance, shape and breed type. Well constructed with good length of neck. Moved very well and was well muscled and in lovely condition. Had the sweetest of expressions and neat ears. Would like to see her in full coat. Reserve Best Bitch. Post Graduate Bitch (2 entries) 1st – Hateley's Mohnesee Enchanted – A beautiful bitch in excellent harsh coat which was presented immaculately. Well boned and beautifully constructed, level topline which she held on the move. Moved very well with reach and drive. Good length of tail. Well shaped dark eye, neat and well placed ears, flat skull. The sweetest of expressions, Good depth of chest and well muscled. Best Bitch, Reserve Best in Show and Best Opposite Sex in Show. 2nd – Welford's Ristine Emerald – tri with good pigmentation, jet black coat. Nice straight front, neat feet, good spring of rib. Stood and showed well with good underjaw. Nice sweep over the loin. Limit Bitch (5 entries 3 absent). 1st Huyton's Jaztech Summer Love for Hightyne – s/w in excellent coat which was well presented. A bitch that could really move well both front and rear. Good spring of rib, good depth of chest, nice topline, Well arched neck. Stood and showed to advantage. 2nd – Glover-Guest's Doonelodge Demora – s/w in excellent coat with lovely bone. Cheeks flat merging smoothly into well-rounded muzzle. Good pigmentation, lovely neat ears and obliquely set almond shaped eye. Nice size and moved well. Open Bitch (2 entries 1 absent). 1st – Hill's Molson Money Penny – Another lovely one from this kennel. In good coat with first class presentation. Lovely head with the desired sweet expression, almond shaped eye and neat ears. Moved very well. Well arched neck. Well off for bone. Lovely neat feet. Veteran Bitch (6 entries 4 absent). 1st – Fisher's CH Shellamoyed Simply Gold JW – s/w in excellent coat. Shows to advantage. Lovely long neck, level topline, good bend of stifle. Good bone. Stood and showed herself off to full advantage. Dark eyes and neat ears. Good shoulder placement. A worthy champion. Best Veteran Bitch. 2nd – Glover-Guest's Nanny McPhee at Doonelodge – s/w in good coat. Well off for bone, good spring of rib and depth of chest. Level topline. Moved well with excellent tail carriage and neat oval feet. Special Open Bitch (Sable and White) – (5 entries 2 absent). 1st – Hateley's Mohnesee Millybelle JW – Another nice one from this kennel. S/w mature bitch in excellent coat which was well presented. Good underjaw, shoulders well laid back, ribs well sprung. Excellent bone, dark almond shaped eyes, neat ears and the sweetest of expressions. Low set tail and moved soundly. 2nd – Hill's Molson Movie Star – s/w bitch in excellent coat. Lovely breed type of ideal size. Dark almond shaped eye and neat well placed ears giving the desired sweet expression. Stood foursquare and moved round the ring with reach and drive. 3rd – Glover-Guest's Doonelodge Demora Special Open (Bitch) (Tri, BT, BW) (2 entries) 1st – Redpath's Pathaaron Eye of the Storm - Glamorous tri with a full white colour. Stood foursquare, shows to advantage. Lovely shape, good reach of neck, good balance well off for bone. Good length of tail which she held well on the move.
